This workshop – aimed at ECD teachers and practitioners – offers an introduction to the use of documentation to make visible children’s thinking, learning, knowledge and understanding of the environment around them.

It is yet another opportunity to think with a Reggio Emilia inspired approach in the Context of the community of Samora Machel, a journey that the Friends of Thandolwethu embarked on in 2018 and that we plan to continue for the foreseeable future.

The actions of observing and documenting are encouraged and practiced in many early childhood programs. However, in the Reggio Emilia inspired approach they truly play a central part. The participants will explore together how and why, and share their views around a few questions:

• How do we document children’s “thinking”?
• Does the act of documenting offer insights?
• For whom are we documenting?
• How do we share documentation?
